What a lovely Saturday afternoon we had last April 28, 2018! Fifty-seven students participated in the first San Diego Young Protege Music Competition. Representing ten local studios, contestants performed on various instruments including piano, cello, violin, viola, guzheng, alto saxophone and double bass. Students competed by age category and division, either as a soloist, part of a duo, ensemble or orchestra. There were 31 solo entries for these instruments, 3 string duets, 2 string ensemble entries, and 2 orchestra entries. Alll students received participation trophies, certificates and comment sheets. Deserving first prize winners received monetary award and ribbons. Second and third place winners received ribbons. Adjudicators were Sharon Muyco and Fresas Balisteri. The event was chaired by SDSC member Fei-Fei Soong. Over-all coordinator of this first-ever local event was chapter president Rowena F. Asuncion. Kudos to all the teachers, students, families, audience, supporters, and volunteers!
