The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Certificate Program is the national assessment standard adopted by CAPMT. It provides practical and academic assessment for music students for all levels and instruments. Examinations are given in spring, summer, and winter. Students may choose to take their assessment among the four available centers in San Diego: Sorrento Valley, San Diego-Carlsbad, La Jolla and San Marcos.
Teachers belonging to San Diego South Chapter regularly and actively participate in the Royal Conservatory of Music assessments and programs. Students of CAPMT teachers can apply for financial assistance through the CAPMT-RCM Scholarship Fund to help defray the cost of assessment fees.
Students are awarded certificates based on the level of their achievements and ratings. Special recognition is also given to top performing students. Those who score 90% and higher (First Class Honors with Distinction) are featured in the California Festival of Excellence Recital, a special regional event that takes place annually. Top performing students are also awarded Center Certificates of Excellence, State Certificates of Excellence and National Gold Medals. Visit the website (www.rcmusic.com) for more in-depth information about this excellent program. You may also contact our chapter’s RCM chair for more information.
NOTE: The RCM Certificate Program has resumed in-person examinations. Remote Examinations are still conducted year round.
